Can’t say I want an animated Ted series.
I mean, even excluding obvious parallels to Family Guy (I’d still say Ted is Family Guy regardless of any medium), or MacFarlane saying he first pitched to HB...
I just find it to be a bad grab.
They wouldn’t make a Ted cartoon because they firmly believe it should be animated. They’d want it produced only due to budget and how pricy the actual show is. It sets the precedent that you’re sacrificing genuine quality simply to cut costs.
When they made the first film, they set the tone that live action was the clearest way to go. The entire premise is a stuffed bear being brought to life, and how the real world moves on with him coexisting. Not that the characters aren’t already exaggerated, but if everyone in it’s a cartoon... it sorta loses a bit of its punch and appeal.
It’s also something I was worried about on principle while watching the show and hoping it would take off.
“Funny cussing bear funny. Funny raunchy cartoon funny. Let’s make funny adult cartoon cussing bear. Haha. Sausage Party.” That’s singlehandedly the worst industry reason to turn to animation. It just signals to me that you’re completely uncreative with your trends.
