Honestly? Understandable why Popeye was Mike Lazzo’s favorite cartoon.

He probably didn’t believe that justified us mailing him Spinach cans that one time...

But I can say unbiasedly that Popeye The Sailor was kind of just unnaturally perfect at what it conveyed.

To this day, sometimes I’ll watch the most extravagant drawings with the most hilarious ad-libs and think “wait a minute. The Hiroshima bombing hasn’t even happened yet. Why are these shorts as good as they are?”

 

I’ve always shown that genuine disbelief toward almost every original short they’ve ever produced. I’m blanking on them ever having a black and white cartoon that I wasn’t entertained by. Which is exactly why I’ll even put it above Looney Tunes.
