[Yesterday’s Redacted/KOTH Ramblings]
Jun. 3rd, 2025 11:19 amThe character caught some shit in think pieces and essays regarding the adultery, but those were roughly made in mind with not understanding the character at all. There’s depth to these characters, and prominent flaws with each of them. Redcorn’s intertwining with the Gribbles carried plenty of that weight.
For the hundreds, if not trillions of times a mediocre-at-best sitcom threw some shitty love affair story at the writing room wall (Family Guy did this for the quillionth time less than a week ago) : King of The Hill debuted, and oh shit... the neighbor’s wife is screwing around with someone else. And it’s not some Opie dopie Andy Griffith misunderstanding that gets resolved by the episode’s end. The wife’s quite literally fucking someone else... with the clear distinction that the child isn’t the father’s. And the father’s far too aloof on everything to logically connect the pieces.
And they built on that for years.Building up on a mean joke would be just about enough... only this show approached it with... nuance? In a FOX show? Crazy! But yes. You could walk out from it knowing Dale’s a caring father to Joseph, and John aspired to be a positive figure, even if still a deadbeat.
One of the most important thing’s the show has ever done, nothing else within that stratosphere even comes close to replicating what they did competently.
The fact the original run, very early made it a point that not everything’s black and white. With dysfunction, there’s also cogs and pieces to keep things moving. That’s how families and relationships often are, and that’s only just a small part of why I used to watch the reruns every night.
I don’t wanna spew about superstitious with the KOTH cast being “cursed” because the revival simply does not need to happen. It doesn’t need to exist. Futurama and KOTH ended a long time ago and neither one will tread any new ground.
I looked at KOTH’s updated intro and was the one single guy on Earth who disliked it. The whole point of the fucking theme song is it’s supposed to be depicting the ordinary super fast and in tune with the music playing. It’s out of pace and wonky because it’s using the theme credits to jingle nostalgia keys instead of saving that for the actual fucking show.
When Futurama puts out a new episode, it’s basically educational in that it teaches me everything not to do in comedy. That is Futurama’s fall from grace. And I’m really just hoping KOTH won’t suck that hard, when bottom line is it’s been given reason after reason to not come back in 2025.
