GTA Timeline Theories/Resolutions: Part 2
Dec. 11th, 2024 05:17 pmThe Trilogy as a whole ended the way it always should’ve ended.
Although, Vice City’s in the middle and just so happens to be the one to... end just right. There’s not nearly enough unanswered questions with Vice City’s events compared to III and San Andreas, and that’s a small aspect of what helps VC stand tall as a narrative.
You’re really convinced Tommy Vercetti rules Vice City before you even make it to the big showdown.
Nonetheless...
• Ray Liotta sadly passed not too long ago. Rockstar made it a thing by IV to overall retire Trilogy characters (something taken way too literal by the fans) but of course Vercetti’s going to have some type of presence in VI’s upcoming rendition of Vice City.
I’m not sure if they’d have Vercetti be deceased with Liotta (Tommy should be up there in age) or if they’d imply Tommy’s still a living legend as their own tribute. Part of CJ’s left over story was pecked at and resolved with GTA Online in spite of CJ not actually appearing, so they can still do something nice.
If I didn’t have whatever’s to come with GTA VI to cloud my judgment, I’d say Vercetti spent many decades juggling between going legit and still being an intimidating kingpin in Florida.
Vice City’s story goes along with Scarface... only Tommy lives. And if there was any time for Tommy to meet his maker, it would’ve been the final mission of the game. Which didn’t happen. Vercetti wins.
• GTA IV made a jab that the meth business ruined the lives of all cocaine dealers in Vice City. Vercetti wasn’t just a mere coke dealer by the end of Vice City, but his drug empire surely wouldn’t last. It’d be up in the air over a decade before GTA III would be set as the 80s couldn’t last forever. That historical piece was actually the one thing keeping Rockstar from ever revisiting Vice City again. They’ve talked about it long before VI’s development.
• Tommy would stay as loyal to his remaining friends/associates as one could be. He’d stay good to Umberto Robina + the Cuban gang even with any negative attention that they bring. Colonel Cortez would always be a phone call away for Mr. Vercetti.
• Avery Carrington was killed 12 years after the events of Vice City. Avery was a real estate tycoon who both hired and enjoyed being closely linked with Vercetti. Their business relationship by 1998 could go either way. Avery was in Liberty City meeting up with Colombian Cartel (leftovers from Diaz Cartel that Tommy wiped out) but they were also conspiring to hurt the Forelli Crime Family (mafia family Tommy formerly belonged to, and was sent to 15 years imprisonment for before the events of Vice City). Avery’s murder was orchestrated by Donald Love, who presumably was way too big for even Vercetti to touch. But it’s doubtful that Tommy would seek any retribution for Avery’s death, as it really was out of his hands.
- Avery was kinda murdered twice in GTA. Burt Reynolds was notoriously a raging asshole to Rockstar guys when recording for Vice City.
- Johnny Sindacco, and the Sindacco Crime Family in general was created in San Andreas out of thin air, most likely because of Liotta’s own dispute with Rockstar. Had there have been no problems with pay, I’m sure Vercetti would’ve had a major part in SA. But I also look at Johnny Sindacco’s character and think that was maybe something they wanted to do to the past protagonist out of some balls.
