Not only is it a recycled premise from a better episode 25 years ago.

It’s a recycled premise from an established favorite episode of the series... seemingly forgetting entirely what made the original good in the first place.

It’s so fucking superficial. Literally all of it.

Robot Devil was the only good part of the episode, and even then, still nothing to say. No purpose.

“You’ve already bargained your soul 6 or 7 times now!” Being self aware doesn’t change the reality of a bled out husk. I’m sorry. You do not get that benefit of the doubt anymore. You’ve had THREE YEARS to improve and do something.

The King Kong vs Godzilla subtext was in the 2000 episode lol. It didn’t waste time, a dumb Hollywood story that they made funny in less than 10 minutes and moved on.

Why it needed to be stretched out into an utter less-than is beyond me. It’s shitty for parody sake and it’s shitty for having nothing on the fucking table besides “uhhhhhhhhhh Bender big again?”

Fry and Leela sucking being the only sub plot. Thirteen. Fucking. Seasons.

I know all the episodes are out, but congratulations on using the opening episode to just wave that all originality and ambition that once was is gone the tubes with your meaningless bullshit.

It isn’t the worst episode by far, but the act of not trying anymore is my new grave annoyance with this thing. Write comedy.

Ironically the premiere was worse than most of the other episodes. Not saying the season was great, or a return to form, but there existed one truly great episode (The Numberland Gap) and a couple of extra good ones too.

I think the premiere sucking hits so badly because it's written by David X Cohen, so you believe this is the series' current peak. It's not. The episode just sincerely sucks.

I go into a bit about how the relaunch lost its way in my just dropped reviews (they should have made a single final season, serialized it into a five hour movie, and given us the proper satisfying series finale we've always been denied.)

Futurama wasn't built to last decades like The Simpsons and Family Guy. It's never been equipped for that. Not in the DNA at all.
