Let me say I understand why you are upset. I also want to thank you for not engaging flame wars on MY journal when Mike comments there. I don't mind his company so much, but I appreciate the fact that you never start anything in MY space even though you really dislike him.
I had a stalker on Toon Zone a few years ago and they followed me to Dreamwidth. I had to ban them and it was a really shitty situation all around. It's not a fun feeling.
I’m not someone who believes Flame Wars to be real. It’s obviously a web jock invented thing to deter online rudeness, but it’s the basic human condition for personalities to clash and insults to occur.
There’s harassment and then there’s life.
I don’t set out to divide and conquer. To me, he’s the lowest of the low. To you, he’s someone you can tolerate. My hatred of him (and believe me, I loathe...) doesn’t make it where I need to badger your hub with that mess. No one on that garbage site will talk to him so poor feller had to wander aimlessly.
I don't know about flame wars not being real. I'd like to believe that but the truth is every single protracted hostile back and forth I've gone through on the net has been a waste of time and energy for me. I think that is the difference to me between that and people just not getting along on general principle.
If it's an annoyance, it's what your talking about. If it's an emotionally draining thing that takes hours to navigate, it's a flame war. The second thing has happened to me more than once, many times on Toon Zone.
“Flame wars” seemingly wraps it in a bow to where someone can shut you down, but cuddles and hugs policy prevents you from saying your piece the way they did.
It’s always felt like an unfair advantage, and the person “flaming” was too careless to invent the term. It was the person trying and failing to be a sheep herder.
I don’t want this to be misconstrued as semantics or retelling of what we both saw before, because I’ve pretty much always felt this way. I don’t take away accountability for what I’ve said before, but I call a spade and spade when others accuse me of going too far.
