Alright, then. That man ain't right.

Significantly better.

The second episode had a really good joke less than 2 minutes in about Peggy’s butchered Spanish, and it’s a breath of fresh air when a returning show like this can get me to even chuckle that early into the runtime. The NEPO baby line before that even was leaps and bounds better than the shit from last episode that they unironically tried to sell as a hitter.

It brought out my alcoholism.

My own hat in the ring about Hank protesting ‘fruity” beers: I really didn’t want cherry flavored Samuel Adams, but at one point those were the only cases of Sam Adams that the liquor store had.

My big go-to’s though are champagne, wine and malt liquor. So who am I to judge?

Was great seeing Dale & Joseph sharing smokes, and really just had good fun with Dale on these 2 episodes.

The premiere... you got a very quick off the table “yeah, Dale was mayor of Arlen.” They didn’t do a grating and non-helpful MAGA parody to remind us how stuck we are. The third episode had their B plot be Hank bickering with Dale at the Bush Presidential display. Bush. The president Hank couldn’t vote for over the flimsy handshake. They did shoe-throwing gags for old time sake, nothing even serious besides driving home a different non-related point.

The third episode was the least asinine approach to Cultural Appropriation talk in modern comedy that I’ve ever seen.

It takes me back to the Girl Scout ending from the premiere. This is what people want, or should want. Have characters talk like fucking characters instead of a self-serving gotcha for what you have to correct. That’s what made the scene between Bobby and the black Japanese owner work so well. It remembers that an all audience still wants to be entertained and shouldn’t have to feel miserable.

By the way. Whoever is voicing Emilio, he’s doing outstanding work. What he said about how we try as Latinos was something I really needed to fucking hear when I’m trying my best to work well again. Love this character.

I didn’t mention Keith David as Brian before. In the old series, Brian would be exactly what you would assume on the surface. Mute stand-in. But no, he’s laid back and talks with the guys. Didn’t even recognize Julius Little in his voice at all, very mellow and cool addition.

The main thing I like with Hank so far is how he handles being retired. The biggest complaint is that’s the only new thing with him, and then he gets real one dimensional about propane and other shit when he had plenty going on in the original. I guess that’s the consequence of having an older Hank where Bobby’s found more purpose as an adult.

Hell of an unintentional tribute to the very recently departed Chuck Mangione.
